Offer Online Tutoring for Students
Do you have a special digital skill that is high in demand? If that’s you then you can comfortably offer these skills to fellow students in return for earnings.
It is one of the common (and less used) ways to make money online as a student. And you can decide to hold the trainings online or offline, depending on what works for you.
The good thing here is that you’re already a student and you’re also currently in an academic environment which is a lot easier to get students to sign up for your trainings if you can effectively demonstrate your skills and capacity to teach others.
Outside teaching fellow students, if you can squeeze out a few hours of your time out of your academics, you can apply to teach secondary school and other high school students directly online.
There are platforms that provides a place for you to host such trainings. There are online educational platforms like Preply, Tutorme etc. that connects learners with private tutors. These platforms accept Nigerians as well as students from most other developing countries.
Outside enrolling on these online tutorial platforms, you can also position yourself as a private tutor across social media, get people to know about your services and apply for roles directly.
Engage in Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing has consistently served as a revenue option for a lot of digital netizens. It has featured as one of the top channels to make money online as a student. And many college students are already cashing out.
The fun thing about affiliate marketing is that you don’t have to show up all the time to push for a product before you get our earnings. With a good platform, decent audience, right product and good marketing, just one push can get you making earnings in revenue for weeks.

This passive income generation option is one of the reasons why affiliate marketing is a great way for students to make a living online.
How it Works
How Affiliate marketing works is very simple. You use your platform to promote other people’s product using a unique link or code and you get paid after a certain commission after the product has been purchased.
There are a number of affiliate marketing platforms you could join both locally and internationally like Amazon Affiliates, Jumia Affiliate Marketing program, etc.
There are also a number of options where it comes to platforms to promote your affiliate product. For example, you could use a blog if you have one. You could also promote your affiliate products on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, TikTok etc.
If you want to make money online without investment, this is one of your surest options to get started with.
Social Media Management
Social media management is one of the easy ways to make money online as a beginner, without spending too much time. And you can also get started from scratch, using your existing skills while learning on the go.
A lot of business owners can barely afford enough time to run their business while still posting on social media. This is where you come in.
With the right skills, you can take up these pages, manage it, create and post content, reply to comment and inquiries, post adverts when necessary. And you can do all of this while still studying.
To make it even easier, you can schedule your post in advance maybe for a week or days. Spend a few hours to come in and attend to queries, reply to comments and engage with the audience.
Done right, you can manage up to 2-3 accounts while still having enough time for your studies.
This is one of the best options I always recommend for students planning to make money without investment. You can start this with little to zero capital. And you can still run your academic activities effectively while offering this service.
Blogging and Content Writing
If you’re someone passionate about writing or willing to go into that, blogging can serve as a great option to make money online as a student.
This is one of the most lucrative and long-term focused options in this list. There are a lot of ideas you can blog about. And as your platform grows, you can get to make a living using so many options.
Now, if this appeals to you, there are so many topics you can blog about. But you want to research topics that appeal to you and then choose what you want, focusing on areas with a decent audience.
How to Make Money Blogging
There are many ways to start a blog and make money as a blogger but before you think about this, I want you to focus on creating high quality content, using a marketing strategy that works, growing your audience before you can start thinking about monetizing your blog.
That said, you can use any of the following options:
- Google AdSense
- Affiliate Marketing
- Sponsored Advertising
- Influencer Marketing
Either of these options can get you to start earning passive income from your blog but like I mentioned earlier, it is very important to post quality content and keep growing your audience before you monetize your blog.
If you’re able to put your best to it, blogging can serve as a great way to make passive income as a student. It can also serve as something you can start from a hobby or as part of your interest ad still grow it into a long-term business that continues even after school. A big win-win.
Digital Products
You don’t need to have a special skill before you can create a digital product. Right at your hostel, you can research the top demand digital products in your preferred niche, choose products with high demand, research, create and sell it.
One of the reasons I recommend creating a digital product is because it is very straightforward. And easy to start for beginners. In fact, one of the first ways I tried to make money online as a student was with a digital product.
You or anyone can do this, with or without a laptop. Start with choosing the right on demand products. After that, go ahead create something very valuable out of that idea.
It could be anything, a book, ebook, guides etc. after you’re done creating it, put it out and get it across to your audience right where they are.
Market it. Push it like your life depends on it because it might. Get it on top publishing platforms like Amazon, Lulu, Selar etc. where people are frequenting to buy products.
With the right product idea, valuable content and marketing, you can use this idea to make passive income while still in school. This will free up our time for you academics or other earning activities.
And one good thing about passive income ideas suitable for students like this is that you can always combine it with other money-making ideas thereby increasing your chances at higher earnings.
